I've been waiting for your review of The Calamity Club! I loved the first half, but then I felt it sort of dragged on (I don't want any spoilers here, but I'm guessing you know where) and then the ending felt so rushed after that. I'm not sure that wasn't intentional? Maybe there is a sequel coming - but I felt like it was a very rushed goodbye to characters I'd spent a lot of time with.
I was just talking to a friend who DNF’d it! I personally loved it, and it’s funny because I am definitely more of a plot person and it didn’t drag for me, but I can see what you’re talking about. I really hope there is a sequel!
Your first lip gloss or pill bottle that you bedazzle will hook you, I promise! It’s such a low-lift craft that you can do while watching tv or listening to a podcast (and makes little objects so much cuter)! xx
This felt very familiar. I’m good at scheduling the things that help me recover, but less intentional about making space for pure fun. I loved your list, especially the art days, creative afternoons, and long dinners with friends.
Wonderful post, Grace! Make fun a habit and reclaim your playful side. Play dates are not just for kids. Treat your hobbies and playtime with the same priority as work tasks or workouts.
Let loose, be silly, be goofy, and have a good old time! Dance around your room to your favorite music—AC mandatory! Once you have found what makes you laugh, embrace it and channel that inner joy. You’ll be writing yourself a thank-you note (on your best stationery, of course)!
Laughter releases endorphins and creates positive connections. It also just plain feels good! Fold humor into your day by listening to funny podcasts, watching your favorite comedy sketches, or having a good chuckle while reading humorous books and articles. You’ll find it’s harder to be stressed when you’re giggling. It can help reframe your entire day and is actually rather contagious.
In the words of George Bernard Shaw, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
We are very similar people! My list is nearly the same except I don’t enjoy arts & crafts and I do have one Type 2 fun: scuba diving. I don’t enjoy hiking, or running, or tennis, or anything else active in the outdoors. But it’s hard to sweat underwater 😁 and I love seeing all the fish.
Wine and a comedy in bed is totally my love language. Might I also suggest adding snacks! This is absolutely our favorite thing to do when we are away at a hotel.
