This has quickly become one of my favorite posts, and wow do these covers (and looks!) deliver. Must-read books, translated into outfits inspired by their covers (and in some cases, their plots). What to read, what to wear!
The Book: The Parisian Heist by Jo Piazza (out 7/14)
I loved every page of this. It’s part historical fiction, part thriller, set between the nineties and the late 1800s. In one timeline, we meet Jo van Gogh, struggling to sell her brother-in-law’s paintings. In another, we meet Emma, a struggling art student who has lost her scholarship and finds herself cleaning the homes of the wealthy elite. One client, a glamorous older woman, leads her to an art heist. I’ll say no more, but I highly recommend pre-ordering (it’s extremely helpful to authors, and Jo is a gem of a human), and you’ll have something really great to look forward to.

The Book: The Plunge by Lila Raicek
I loved this book, but I had to feature it here simply because the cover: this color palette is to die for! Liv is a writer in her early thirties, fresh off the shocking death of her fiancé. One night she runs into her former neighbor, Damon . . . and a magnetic older widow, Isabel. She’s drawn into their glamorous world, becoming friends with Isabel while having a secret affair with Damon. Meanwhile, a journalist is prying into Liv’s past, threatening to reveal her most haunting secret. Unputdownable, with beautiful writing.

The Book: The Fine Art of Lying by Alexandra Andrews
Another stressful art world thriller! I tore through it in just a couple of days; it is incredibly twisty and highly stressful (in a good way!) to read. Clare is a bit lost, married into a wealthy family, and without a purpose. When she meets a mysterious older art dealer, the two begin an affair and she finds herself coming alive again. Until: she’s at the center of a horrible murder (and a stolen masterpiece). Wrong place, wrong time, Clare must rush to hide her affair, and figure out what happened . . . or risk becoming the police’s main suspect.

The Book: The Foursome by Christina Baker Kline
I don’t read a lot of pure historical fiction (I like a dual timeline), but the premise of this one piqued my curiosity: it’s the true story of the conjoined twins from Siam, Eng and Chang Bunker, and the Yates sisters who married them. It was fascinating. The book spans five decades of their family’s life on a plantation in nineteenth-century North Carolina, from the 1830s through the Civil War and the years afterward. The storytelling is beautiful: you really feel like you are back in the nineteenth century. I still can’t believe it’s all true.

The Book: Famesick by Lena Dunham
Possibly the book of summer? I ultimately loved this. Dunham is an incredible writer and storyteller; so vulnerable about the cost of fame, about her relationships and friendships. Of course, there are always two sides to every story, but I felt like she did a great job holding herself accountable and acknowledging what she could have done better. My favorite parts were the early chapters about Girls, the later chapters about breaking up with her best friend, and all the bits about her parents — I love how close she is with them. It’s hard to believe that she started writing (and filming) Girls when she was just twenty-three. I’m really glad I read it and highly recommend listening.
