Absolutely loved Funny Story! I preordered and read the entire book on release day, staying up wayyy too late. Her writing is just so witty, crisp, and thoughtful. As soon as I finished, I checked goodreads expecting to see everyone gushing about it but there were some haters who loved her previous book, Happy Place, much more, which admittedly wasn't my fave. I was disappointed to see that, but I think preference just depends on which story themes and characters you happen to resonate with more, and I personally related to some of the family themes/dynamics in Funny Story. Enjoy reading the rest of it, I wish I had savored it a bit more!
this is the comment i needed! I had similar feelings on Happy Place, it did not resonate but i kept at it and did end up finishing and enjoying the later half of it. I have been debating if i should pick up Funny Story, and i think i shall! thank you.
I'd like to pick up an Emily Henry book - I lean more towards thrillers as well, but I think I will try Book Lovers! Thanks for the recs. My IG ads have been haunting me on that bedside lotion.
Every time you post Green Vase I want. I’ll pull the trigger one of these days but this is a great reminder I should drop hints for Mother’s Day. I love that they are works of art AND finally a plant I likely won’t kill.
