The Saturday Group Text, #29
Really excellent granny panties (seriously), a new fav pair of jeans, a book all about caftans, and more.
Happy Saturday. Charleston is in bloom and I wish you could smell the jasmine, the honeysuckle, the roses. It’s everything!
Weekend Reading is up on the blog. This week’s list is a good one. Two book lists, three recipes I bookmarked. An interesting piece on why millennials are giving up on “leaning in,” in favor of the soft girl life. Relevant to that: “maybe you just need to take a nap?” But also: on location with Ripley. Dating in your fifties. The world’s most beautiful libraries. Chef-approved cooking gadgets. And more! I hope you enjoy. xx
Brodo Broths
Brodo sent me a couple variety packs of their broths and I am really enjoying them. So much so that I’ve already ordered more! I am always trying to add more protein into my diet and it can be tricky as I am fickle. I am definitely more of a savory person so it is nice to have a snack that isn’t a protein bar or smoothie. These are just really tasty and comforting to sip.
I was a big fan of their post in New York and love the convenience. Open up a packet, dump it into a mug, microwave for 60 seconds or so. Easy peasy. I like all of the flavors but think ginger + turmeric, plain old chicken, and garlic + chili are my favorites.
Caftans, by Cameron Silver
Never have I ever hit “purchase” on a book so quickly. Cameron Silver is the founder of the beloved, iconic vintage heaven, Decades and I cannot wait for this book. The move (thank you to Eleanor for the tip) is to order it from Decades to get a signed copy!
A new-to-me denim favorite!
It is no secret that I am Madewell denim’s number one fan. My most worn jeans are their kick out crop jeans but I have been slowly incorporating slightly wider, more relaxed silhouettes. I saw Madewell’s perfect vintage wide leg crop on
(here, looking so cute) and thought, “hmm.. I could maybe try that?” I took the plunge and I LOVE. I like that they aren’t dramatically wide (this part is important!) and I like that they show a little ankle (also very important!). They are also wildly comfortable and true to size. I have the vintage canvas (middle) and am thinking about adding one of the lighter washes as well.Seriously great granny undies.
Maybe a departure from what I usually share here but a worthwhile one! Last Friday I was at a friend’s 40th birthday party. Somehow the conversation took a turn to this Hanes smoothing underwear. I don’t know how it came up but I’m glad it did. It started with complimenting a girlfriend’s outfit and turned into a discourse on these underwear. The next morning, I had a text to said underwear. I ordered the four pack on the spot (they are very well priced!). They arrived in the mail earlier in the week and I totally get it. Her enthusiasm was fully warranted: these are some seriously awesome granny undies. Comfort wise they are comfy enough for everyday wear (you won’t think about them) but you definitely don’t want to sleep in them.
What I Watched This Week:
Baby Reindeer on Netflix. This was described to me as “You” meets “Fleabag” so I was curious. Man. That went dark, FAST. It is good… just DARK and weird and creepy and sad and you should absolutely check content warnings before watching. It is about a struggling comedian / bartender who is stalked by a woman named Martha. It starts out weird and a little funny (cute even?) and then goes off the rails (also: it’s based on a true story!). Her obsession becomes more and more dangerous and he is forced to deal with the situation while confronting a past trauma (involving sexual assault). The ending is sad. The whole thing, really. It’s bizarre enough to keep watching but I can’t say that I recommend it. Does that make sense?
Extras:
A final reminder about my Earlybird CBD code! These gummies are the best (like having two glasses of wine, without any side effects). I love them. My favorite is the strawberry but I like all of the flavors. And yes they taste a little bit like weed but I’m fine with that. More about them here. Use GRACE20 for 20% off (ends tomorrow!)
Remember those cute personalized sweatshirts from a few weeks back? The softest and most comfortable and they’re personalized (I got the cats names as they are my obsessions). Anyway! The brand reached out with a code. So, if you use GRACE15, they’ll give you 15% off your order. (My personal fav is the cozy crop, sized up one size for an oversized fit). I’ve updated my codes page!
Did you see Ryan Gosling’s monologue for SNL? Just in case: it’s funny and clever and put a smile on my face. One of SNL’s best opening monologues in a while..
I look forward to this every Saturday morning. Coffee and the group text! Always a gentle and informative/ fun way to head into the wkend! ❤️
Such a treat and couldn’t agree more re. Gosling. He’s so charming. I somehow feel that we are friends.
