The Saturday Group Text, #67
Pretty lingerie, an artist to love, Crown Affair's new shampoo + conditioner, a slew of movies (old + new), and more

Hi friends. What a strange week with all this snow in Charleston! I have been in a little bit of a funk, and I just want to be a bear and curl up under a blanket. It’s the season to embrace that, I suppose!!!
Weekend Reading is up on the blog. It’s a great list. Where to watch every Oscar-nominated film. A soup I’m dying to make. How do you tell if you’ve outgrown a friendship? Homemade salad dressing recipes. A few gorgeous home tours. Relatable fashion advice from Jenna Lyons. How to plan a trip to Japan on a budget. A slew of fun shopping finds. And lots more: enjoy the list!
PS - This one is too long for email, so click through to read it in Substack. Give it a heart if you’re feeling kind—it helps with the algorithm. <3
The best brightening eye masks I’ve tried
I can’t take credit for this find; it was an recommendation, and such a good one. If you struggle with dark circles, you must try them! After 15 minutes, your undereye area looks dramatically brighter. I can’t really get over the results. And at $22 for six pairs, I’m impressed with the price point. They do more than a lot of the pricier eye masks I’ve tested out.
Raishad Glover
My friend Anne owns an incredible art gallery here in Charleston, and I gasped when I saw a preview of her latest show (opening Feb 7th!), Echo Flow, by Raishad Glover. His work is so unique and just . . . cool! These particular pieces are digital monotypes atop mirrored glass, and I’ve never seen anything like them. I can’t stop thinking about the way the light reflects off of the mirror to add an extra layer of dimension. I really look forward to seeing them in person. So special!
A new-to-me lingerie fave
This could be a factor of being in my forties, but I struggle to find cute, pretty bra and underwear sets that are also comfortable. I want to feel (to borrow
’s term) “female gaze sexy,” but I also want to be comfortable. We have talked at length about the amazing Dôen bra (equal parts comfy + sexy), but a newer discovery is Else. The most beautiful lingerie in sheers and laces that won’t have you clawing them off of your body at the end of the day.clockwise from top left: merlot bra, nude bralette, black bra, black thong, nude bikini, merlot bikini
Crown Affair’s Hydrating Shampoo + Conditioner
Over the past year or so, I’ve become a Crown Affair super fan. The dry shampoo is the best dry shampoo I’ve ever used. The finishing spray and finishing gel? Divine.
I cannot seem to figure out the air dry mousse (that may be a “me” problem; I’ve never liked how my hair air dries), but everything else? Fab. Naturally, I was very excited to try the new shampoo + conditioner. The hydrating formula is what worked best for me. It gets my hair super clean (often not the case with hydrating formulas) but leaves it silky smooth. And I love the scent. You can “build your ritual” and save 15%.
Film:
Mulholland Drive. My guy and I wanted to watch something David Lynch over the weekend. It was very good (a wild ride), although I had to look up an explainer as the ending confused me. I am just not artsy enough. ;) Watch it, and then read this. Reading that explainer had us re-watching the ending and being like, OH. Of course! Ultimately, it’s a critique of Hollywood as a “dream factory,” crushing the hopes of those who get trapped inside.
Anora. A modern (and chaotic!) rags-to-riches/Cinderella story where a young sex worker is swept off her feet by the son of a Russian oligarch. They meet at a strip club (her place of employment) and then wind up spending the week together. They get married so that he doesn’t have to go back to Russia. His family gets involved, coming to New York to try and annul the marriage.
Rear Window. This is nothing new, but it’s one of my all-time favorite films. A classic. I’ve watched it countless times. Jimmy Stewart is my crush, and Grace Kelly’s outfits slay. Plus, it's a mystery!
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. This just got added to Netflix. I was excited to watch it (the book has been in my TBR pile for over a year, I love Gabrielle Zevin, and I really like Kunal Nayyar), but I felt like the plot was really thin. I think they tried to fit in a lot over several years, and it just didn’t work. It felt like a bad Hallmark movie to me. I wouldn’t recommend it.
TV:
I watched the first two episodes of An Update on Our Family (Max) about the Stauffer family. To be honest, I didn’t know a lot about YouTube, especially family YouTube, so it’s been pretty interesting. I didn’t follow all the drama (this family “rehomed” their adopted son after two years) at the time, but it’s very sad!
I started A Man on the Inside (Netflix) with Ted Danson—it’s charming! Similar to The Good Place, it’s a nice, bite-sized show (26 minutes long) that is fun to watch when you need a little break. Ted Danson plays a retired widower in need of a hobby. He winds up working for a private investigator, going “inside” a retirement home to help sniff out a thief. It’s made me laugh out loud a few times.
I was really impressed with Madewell’s latest collection. I got these straight jeans (the wash is perfection), but also love these suede flats, this Dôen-adjacent blouse, this shirt with contrasting stripes, this simple trench
My friend ’s post about her experience losing everything (or nothing) to the Palisades fires had me in tears.
Donni has some great new arrivals. A cozy cotton cashmere crew (the “lox” shade is perfect), pointelle pants (I bought the green), a perfect hoodie, cotton cashmere socks.
Shopbop Hearts are up-to-date. This week’s new arrivals were STRONG.
Rachel Comey has some great stuff right now. I love this mint green sweatshirt , these fun stud earrings, and these fabulous oxfords with cut-out polka dots.
Dôen had a dreamy new drop; I can’t stop thinking about this suede jacket.
I died when I saw these shell placemats (on sale!). Immediate order for me.
The Rixo x Stripe and Stare collab is super fun. I got this set of underwear and love them. The patterns are bright and happy, and the fabrics are so soft.
Larroude launched sneakers — I love! Deciding between tan or green.
I would still keep AJ Fikry on your TBR list! The book is sooooooo much better than the film.
Thank you for the gift link for the soup! Excited to make it next week!!
