The Saturday Group Text, #47
The $3.50 skincare trick I'm obsessing over, the best end of summer sales, movie recs, and more.
happy Saturday!
Weekend Reading is up on the blog. This week’s list is one of the best in a while (in my very humble opinion!). An interview with Nara Smith (she fascinates me). The best movie closets of all time. Ina Garten’s guide to the Hamptons. The best movies of the year so far. A TikTok trend that infuriates me. Dealing with election season stress. Fall salad recipes, a yummy crouton trick, an insanely good looking lobster sandwich. Plus loads more. Enjoy the list! xo
Facial Cupping.
I have been so excited about this and maybe it will be a blog post down the road but also I had to tell you now!!!! I had a facial last week (I go to Anna, she is amazing!) and she tried something different on me as her microcurrent machine wasn’t working: facial cupping! I LOVED it. It felt so good as she did it and it left my jawline and cheekbones way more sculpted.
I was raving and raving and she told me about this $7 cupping set (this is exactly what she used; you only need one of each size so you could split it with a friend). I ordered it on the spot. I LOVE THIS. It feels incredible, helps with lymphatic drainage, and is a great way to stimulate circulation. Last night I went out for drinks and salty snacks and I got home and did this at the end of my skincare routine and I did not wake up puffy. I always wake up puffy so this is huge!
The larger size is great for the face and the little one is for under the eyes. I use it with my U Beauty Face Oil (currently on sale at Violet Grey but you could do it while you wash your face or with any oil - you do need a little slip, don’t do this dry!). I am still getting the hang of it but I’m linking the two best tutorials I’ve found below.
Here is a tutorial for the eye area (this is amazing — it lifts the brow, reduces puffiness and helps with droopy eyelids).
And this is a great tutorial for the face.
Hunter Bell’s Fall Collection
Hunter Bell has been a favorite brand for ages now and this new collection is just TOO GOOD! I love all the texture, the stripes (of course), the bandana prints… it’s fresh, fun and makes you want to mix and match. From the left, 3 personal favorites: bandana print dress, yellow + white stripe shirtdress, lace top.
Some really good end of summer sales happening now:
I feel like every brand is having some sort of sale? End of summer? Pre-Labor Day thing? I won’t ask questions — I will just be happy about it. Here are a few faves.
I mentioned this yesterday but Violet Grey is running 25% off most of their inventory. If you are a fellow Rich Cream addict, this is a good time to stock up. So many other faves are included: Westman Atelier, U Beauty, Crown Affair, etc.
Supergoop is doing 20% off (or 25% off when you spend $100 or more). I’m loading up on my SPF faves. (Unseen Sunscreen, a big bottle of PLAY, the body mist).
Loeffler Randall updated their sale with up to 60% off. There is some really good stuff included My friend Chassity has this dress and I’m tempted to copy - it’s so cute! Other picks: these raffia fisherman sandals (also in blue), this raffia tote, these heels, these pink mesh flats.
Brightland Olive Oil never does sales but through the 26th they are doing 20% off a few select sets: the pizza night set, the ice cream topper, the fool proof salad dressing bundle, the essential capsule! I’m buying a few to save as gifts.
What I Watched This Week:
We started Bad Monkey on Apple TV. It’s great so far! Vince Vaughn plays a disgraced detective. When a severed arm turns up, he has a chance to resurrect his career. The characters are great and it’s that rare mystery/thriller that’s also very funny. While it is very different plot-wise, the writing almost has a bit of a White Lotus quality to it.
On the flight home, I watched Babes. This is a friendship comedy. It was a rocky start for me (honestly there was a lot of gross humor around childbirth-related stuff but after the first 15 minutes it got better and then: way better. Gross out stuff aside, it’s a very heartwarming friendship story. I wound up really loving it and cried just a little at the end.
Also, on the flight home, I started watching Abigail but took it off as it was so bad. Very very bad, do not recommend.
And then when I got home, I went to the movies with my friends. We went to see Aliens Romulus and honestly it was NOT my pick (I love going to the movies and if you offer me a ride I will say yes to pretty much anything?). It was very very scary. Extremely gross and realistic aliens. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Extras:
I talked to The Strategist about favorite swimsuits.
Shopbop Hearts are up to date with lots of good fall and pre-fall finds.
Doen’s fall drop is too good. I bought this dress.
There’s a much more detailed video on Wilder North Botanicals with Ashley Green
Hi Grace I just received my facial cupping set from Amazon and decided to try it out this morning. I used the video you recommended and I am BLOWN away. I sleep on my side and have a really puffy under eye area, it takes forever for it to go away. I’ve tried everything, every under eye treatment there is, even got filler once (big mistake and won’t ever do that again) Thank you for highlighting this,it’s not something I would ever have tried before.
