The Dog Days of Summer.
Looking messy, staying cool. But also: the joy of not over committing.
I’m on my way back to Charleston today. It was so great to be in LA and have a break from the heat and humidity (the weather this week/weekend was absolutely perfect: warm and sunny but not hot!).
Back at home it has been hot, humid, and super rainy and so I have been living in easy button downs and shorts.
When I return to Charleston, I’ll have a low key schedule. I have learned not to overcommit myself too much (in general but especially after a trip!). There is nothing worse (to me!) than getting home and jumping into a super social schedule without having time to (re)settle myself at home. I have a movie date with one girlfriend (seeing It Ends With Us) and a fancy drinks date with another. This is my most important sort of self-care these days! When I don’t feel overloaded on plans I am my most relaxed and happiest. It’s taken me a long time to get to a point where I do a good job managing my calendar and I’m proud of myself! Now let’s just see if I can keep it up through the fall when things get super busy here!
A few things:
This post is a little long so click through your browser to read!
I cannot believe how much I wore these sandals. I knew it was a lot (they are a definite favorite!) but maybe I need to wear some of my other shoes. I have the black “pool” version which just means there’s a rubber sole. I ordered the tan suede as I’ve been wearing them so much! They run true to size, I generally wear an 8.5 and got the 39.
I like this outfit. I was kind of just thinking “let’s just see how many stripes I can put on my body” and it somehow worked out okay. I think it works because they are all pretty varied but in relatively similar textures and colors.
Also, did you know about Lake’s sweaters? These are new to the brand, I haven’t seen many people talking about them but they are GREAT. This one is honestly perfect.
I had girlfriends over for a little Apéro + to play Mahjong in the pool. I love this crochet coverup so much. I recommend sizing up for a looser fit.
I am a wrinkled mess but such is life. What is makeup, what is ironing? When it is hot and rainy and I’m not seeing people, I’m not doing either thing. I have been living in this Faherty chambray shirt + linen shorts.
I really, really wish Wal-Mart would bring back this tee. I am lucky in that I snagged 4 of them in different sizes (2 or 3 years ago, whenever they made them!) and I love them. They just get better with wear… thin and drapey, truly perfect. And only $12.
Also, these sweatpants. I have a paid partnership with Frank & Eileen this week in stories so I got to pick out a bunch of product. These were one of my favorites. They are perfect. Great fit in the butt, back pockets, and a cute cropped length. (Plus they’re super soft and cozy, etc).
This is what I wore to dinner with girlfriends. This Dôen dress is perfect. When I’d gone to order it, they only had a large (it’s restocked now) and I’m glad I sized up. It’s a bit short (I’m 5’8) and I think the larger size just hangs better. Shift dresses (IMO) look better a little loose. And I love these flats. I think the cut is so chic.
I am so excited as I was voted onto the young professionals board of our art museum, The Gibbes. This is what I wore to the orientation.
Travel day! I wanted to test out my new Madewell jeans. I am wearing my usual size but kinda wish I sized down as they run a little big. I can’t tell if this is just a factor of being a geriatric millennial: it’s still really hard to get used to a looser silhoutte on bottom.
The housewarming party for my bf’s brother and his husband. What a night. I wore this Cocoshop dress (use GRACE15) and the Vince ballet flats.
I put my Marisa Klass shell pendant (her pieces are one of a kind sadly) on my Sherman Field 25” chain. I loved how they paired together. My bracelets are Sherman Field and Dorsey (2.5mm lab grown diamonds)
I love this top. It was one of those pieces that stopped me in my tracks. It was expensive but I’d earned a $200 gift card to Saks during one of their promos, plus it was 20% off so those two things helped make it more reasonable!
OK that is it! Bye for now, xo!
I love seeing all of your outfits. The Doen dress looks great on you. Now I’m tempted by it, I think it would look great with wide silk pants as well for cooler weather
I love it when you post your outfits. That Dôen dress is my favorite! You look beautiful in the picture at the housewarming party. You said on Instagram that your boyfriend’s son took that picture. He did a great job!
