My coffee table is the centerpiece of my home. It’s where I keep the things I’m most excited about at any given time. Fresh flowers . . . the books and magazines I’m reading . . . a slab of malachite, a pretty mug . . . a cozy candle. I’m excited to unveil a new monthly series here on Scratch Pad, aptly named The Centerpiece. I have been toying with an interview series for a while now, and this one feels right.
I couldn’t think of a better person to launch the series than , the founder of Loeffler Randall. Jessie is someone I’ve admired for a long time. Her unabashedly fun personal style, her craftiness, her political activism, and the beautiful brand she’s built. Everything she touches, from her brand to her Substack, feels so incredibly her! In another world, I like to think we’d be crafting pals.
I hope that you enjoy the feature and get to know a little more about Jessie, her brand, and the many small businesses she supports (another reason I love her!). Also, check out her recent piece featuring home DIY projects. I’m impressed!
What do you use your coffee table for (i.e., work, entertaining, etc). ? This is my coffee table out at the beach in Bridgehampton. It’s right in front of the fireplace. In the winter, I like to sit on my couch and relax, work on a craft (like the baby sweater I am knitting), or hang out talking with friends.
What's the most important thing on your coffee table? The most important thing is the little skirt I sewed myself. I didn’t like my coffee table and had the idea to make a skirt out of an old tablecloth to cover the table. I ordered a glass top from Amazon, and voila! A table that is now one of my favorite things in the house.
When you're sitting by your coffee table, what are you drinking? If I’m being honest, a Diet Coke. If I’m being good, a glass of water or tea.
Describe your style in three words. My style at the beach is natural materials, soothing, Cotswolds-y.
What are you reading right now? I am reading way too much Reddit, for starters. I love memoirs and non-fiction. I’m finishing up Sonny Boy by Al Pacino. I just read Earth To Moon by Moon Unit Zappa, reread Open by Andre Agassi, and Little Failure by Gary Shteyngart.
Where can people find you? I started a Substack 6 months ago. It has been a lot of work, but it is also so much fun. It’s called . My Instagram is @jessie_loeffler_randall. My company is @loefflerrandall.
