I’m officially back in the office (err, my kitchen table) today, and I thought I’d share a more personal post: a little photo diary of how I spent the holiday break. There was a lot of champagne, a lot of good snacking, a lot of family time . . . it was truly so restorative.
By the time this weekend rolled around, I felt a little bit bored, and truthfully? Desperate to get back to work. I was feeling pretty burnt out in mid-December, but I am back and feeling like myself again. Recharged. Renewed. Ready to dig into work. Time off is so important for a whole host of reasons. The obvious one is being present with friends and family. The less obvious one is that it rewires my brain in a way. I’ve always found that I have my best creative ideas when I am a little bit bored. (This isn’t just my own personal hypothesis, years ago I read Bored and Brilliant by Manoush Zamorodi, and she delves into all the science that makes this true). I try to take two weeks off over the holidays every year and it’s something I really cherish and rely on.
All of this to say: I’ve rested. I’ve had fun. My pants are quite tight. My house is clean. But also, I had so many ideas over the break, and that feels really good. Things I want to test and try here, ideas for house projects and cooking products . . . it feels like my brain has been turned back on (which is exactly what I wrote about before taking off for the break). Hardware reset, complete!
PS - this post is too long for email so you’ll need to click through to Substack!
Movies + snacks. We’ll get to everything I watched in Saturday’s letter. It is a lot.
Reading the new Flamingo Estate book (a gift from my bf; I’d asked for this and it’s wonderful!!!) with my firstborn.
Christmas Eve was spent in the kitchen and I was so happy about that. Dinner was a success. Today on the blog, I published a post with tablescape details + the menu. It has exactly what I served and links to everything on the table.
Above: steamed crab legs (more on that in the blog post) my grandfather’s famous (albeit time consuming) eggnog.
Eggnog in a fancy silver cup, Sparkling rosé (Sophie James sent me this and it’s really, REALLY good - I’m planning to order more . . . I also like her pinot noir a lot) in a Fferrone cup.
The rest is behind the paywall! <3
