A Week in the Life
Work, outfits, events . . . this was a more-interesting-than-usual one so felt worthy of documenting
Confession: I love day and week in the life content so much. It’s right up there with “What’s in My Bag” and “One Piece, Three Ways.” I eat this stuff up.
It’s a little bit voyeuristic but also kind of cozy? Tell me about your to-do list! Show me your outfits. Tell me what you ate for breakfast and when you went to bed. I’m here for all of it. In nitty-gritty detail. I don’t know why I love reading these sorts of posts but I do. They are my favorite.
In August, I highlighted a random Wednesday. Last week, I had more going on than usual, so I decided to document a full week.
Monday:
As I am self-employed, I try to make Monday my “easy” day. No meetings or shoots, just a day of desk work. It doesn’t always happen, but that is the goal, and it makes for a cozier, low-key start to the work week.
Thanks to daylight savings time (why was this such a struggle!?), I woke up later than I would have liked and got right to work. I did a lot of admin stuff (emails, replying to DMs, looking at new arrivals), wrote a review of the book I finished over the weekend, and put the finishing touches on three upcoming blog posts. I also took a call about an upcoming panel I’ll be speaking on.
I had a 1:30 personal training session and came home, showered, and got back to work for a few hours. I finished the next day’s Substack, sent a concept to a brand for a sponsored post, ordered product for another upcoming sponsored post. Around 5 pm I wrap up work to set up: I’m having some of my neighborhood friends over for snacks.
At 8:30, everyone leaves. (My favorite rule is “Please leave by nine.”) I clean up and around 9:30, I put on a show. Scamanda. It is entertaining, but I fall asleep.

Tuesday:
DST was killing me. I could not sleep the night before, and, of course, I overslept. Such a fragile little flower I am, even over an hour’s time change.
I scrambled to get the day’s grid post up as I made my coffee. The morning was very admin-y. I locked in my next guest interview for The Centerpiece. I reviewed the previous week’s best sellers and got a bunch of stuff (links, photos, etc) to my graphic designer. It’s the Shopbop Sale, so I post my favorite picks. It’s embarrassing to say, but the Shopbop Sale kind of takes over the morning. They are one of my most favorite retailers but also an important partnership!
I eat lunch (I was lazy, so I just made scrambled eggs) and duck out to get a haircut. When I get home, I spend the rest of the afternoon working on Friday’s Substack essay. I proofread the next day’s Substack and blog posts.
At 6, I meet a girlfriend to walk. It’s absolutely beautiful out, and we run into several friends along the way, so I don’t get home until nearly 8. I make dinner and put on A Complete Unknown. I liked it a lot (especially the wardrobe and set — nothing better than sixties New York). I am sleepy, so I do not finish it.
Wednesday:
Thank God, I woke up at 7:30, and I am back on track. I have my coffee and do my journaling and word games at my usual relaxed pace. The morning is mostly administrative. I book travel for an upcoming trip, finish a couple of reports that I update each week, plan the next day’s photo shoot, and get the shot list over to my photographer.
I start gathering video inspiration for my next reel shoot. I then work on the following week’s blog content. Around 12:30, I hop on the treadmill for a run/walk workout. (This is my annoying reminder that you always have 30 minutes to exercise!) I make a protein shake, do some emails, shower, and put on a dress. I forgot to take an outfit photo.
I work on blog content. UPS arrives with the product for a sponsored post that is due the next day(!), so I open that, steam all the clothes, and film the stories. My editor gets back to me with feedback on Friday’s essay, so I revise that. More emails! Honestly, I feel a little frazzled from switching back and forth with several different tasks.
A little after 6, my friend grabs me to go to see a performance in town (The Midlife Monologues). I come home and read my book, which is excellent

Thursday:
Today is my big day of the week— photo shoot day. If I have a shoot, it sort of takes over the day between the actual shoot + getting myself and my house photo-ready. I start working right at 8. I get a few things (mostly boring admin stuff and replying to emails done) and then I go to my first ever therapy appointment. It was great. I wrote more about that in yesterday’s send.
I answer emails and get Friday’s newsletter schedule, and then the rest of the afternoon is devoted to shoot prep and shooting with
. Laura is also a good friend—she makes it easy. We shot a sponsored beauty post, flatlays for three beauty reviews, and six outfits—three with flash indoors and three outside. Whew. I’m absolutely wiped by the end, but I'm also stoked to have been so productive.I go through my emails and reply to anything urgent, and then it is time to get ready— I need to meet my friends at 6:30 for the Design Week kickoff party (one of my favorite events of the season). I don’t have much time, but luckily my hair and makeup are done from shooting.
I had ordered 3 dresses to wear and nothing fit. Hooray, middle age!
So, I shopped my closet and wore this dress from The Vampire’s Wife, which I bought three years ago. It is one of my favorite special-occasion dresses. I’m still sad that the brand is no more. I have a saved search going on The RealReal.
The whole "buying a bunch of dresses and having none of them work out” thing was a good reminder that I have some really good stuff in my closet. I’d rather wear something older and special than buy something new just to have something new and shiny to wear.
Friday:
I had no plans besides going to the gym. A glorious thing, especially after the previous day’s photo shoot and party. I spent the morning doing admin stuff and took an 11:30 weights class at my gym. Honestly, I was not very productive. I did a lot of “research,” aka looking at my favorite retailers and updating my ShopMy page. I was tired from the week, the previous night’s party, and also the workout.
I wind up taking a mid-day nap (not proud of this, but sometimes it happens) and in turn staying up late to finish up the next day’s Weekend Reading + Saturday Group Text columns.
Ta-dah! The end. I hope you enjoyed reading about my week even half as much as I enjoy reading about other people’s weeks! xo
Echoing everyone else! Love these posts and totally agree about what's in your bag posts..maybe I am just nosy?? 😂
No nap shame. Ever! Your body (and mind) needs what it needs. ♥️
