I’ve seen so many wonderful day-in-the-life’s floating around here on Substack - both

Becca Freeman
and
Azora Zoe Paknad
had really good ones! I thought I’d throw my own into the ring.

I present to you: my exact day yesterday. With probably way too much detail!

A few notes:

  • This was a slow day where I didn’t have any social plans or big meetings or shoots. Or plans after work. I realize I sound like a bit of a recluse but honestly it was lovely.

  • Every day is different. Today there was no life admin or big projects to contend with. I typically have more interruptions!

7:00am — My alarm goes off. The cats are both in bed with me, it is the best.

7:11am — I’m downstairs. I slept in an old Beverly Hills Hotel x Sant & Abel nightshirt. It’s at least six years old; I was shocked to see that they still make it. My first order of business is coffee. I love the coffee in my house. I bought a Miele coffee maker three years ago and it’s was the best purchase ever (review + link here). I use these beans (my bf got me obsessed) to make my coffee. I make an Americano and drink it black with a few ice cubes.

Coffee + water in hand, settle into my couch for word games. I do Wordle, Connections, and Strands — and text the results to various friends + family group chats. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without my word games, they are one of my favorite parts of the morning.

7:40am — Clean out my inbox (god I get so much junk mail) and read letters from two favorite Substacks. This morning its

Hey Mrs. Solomon on Style
and
The Wardrobe Edit
. I love both of these letters so much. Rachel and Anna have very different style from my own but they each really inspire me - they also seem like great people. Anna influences me to buy this carnelian necklace. We have a jewelry trends post coming soon-ish. Spoiler alert: carnelian is going to be very big this season.

I reply to one important email that I forgot the day before and put my laptop back on the charger.

I loved this passage from The Creative Act.

8:00am - This is computer free time. I can’t stress how important it is for me to have this time in the morning. It sets the tone for the day. Ideally I do this starting at 7:30 and have a whole hour but I wasn’t up early enough. I read a chapter from The Creative Act. I page through the new Art Forum. I write in my journal. I tidy up a few things (I cannot work if my space is a mess) and take out some trash.

8:30am - I set a timer for 30 minutes and go on Instagram. In an ideal day, I do this 3x a day and don’t really look at it the rest of the day. Instagram is a tricky thing for me. I need it (it’s still the bulk of my income!) and I do like it (I find a lot of cool stuff there, it keeps me connected with my friends). But it totally zaps my creativity and focus. Assigning dedicated blocks throughout my day has been the best strategy.

During this time I post the day’s blog post + a few shopping links, some photos from the night before. I reply to as many DMs as I can, scroll through the grid and engage with other accounts, I scroll reels to look for funny sounds that I can repurpose for one of my own future reels. I won’t look at Instagram again until lunchtime.

9:00am - Phone gets put away, I dive into computer work.

  • I go into the Facebook group and spend about ten minutes, moderating the group and replying to questions. I also post the day’s blog post and pin it to featured.

  • I have an instagram partnership with Nordstrom coming up. I review the brief, outfit plan, order product, and email my manager with my post date.

  • The next day, I need to film an Instagram partnership with Dior Beauty, so I make sure everything is organized for that. I review the brief and talking points. make a collage post in Photoshop and add all of the products to the backend of LTK (the affiliate platform I’m working with for this partnership.

  • I proofread, edit, and schedule the next day’s blog post.

10:00am - Quick break to feed the cats (I feed them late, this is on purpose, that way they aren’t total maniacs in the morning) and make a second coffee. I am hungry and eat a little container of cottage cheese with everything salts sprinkled on top. I catch up with my boyfriend who is just waking up on the West Coast.

10:30am - Back to work!

  • Answer a few emails.

  • Reply to blog and Substack comments.

  • We have a handbags edit going live on the blog next week; Carly has finished setting it up so I go in and write the product descriptions and the intro to the post and my blurbs.

  • J.Crew is having a sale so I work on a collage for that. The J.Crew website crashes so I use take this as a sign that it is time to sneak in a workout.
