I love my bedroom. It’s my happy place; my favorite room in the house. Bright and airy, with loads of natural light. It overlooks my little courtyard, which means that I get to fall asleep to the soothing sound of the fountain (and lately, the frogs!). After years and years of city living, I never take the ability to fall asleep somewhere peaceful and quiet for granted. My last apartment in Brooklyn was on the ground floor (next to a bus stop). Even after four years, I never quite got used to the noise.
I love to sleep and am happiest when I get nine hours. I’m a light sleeper and have struggled with insomnia, so it’s important to me that my bedroom feels like a sanctuary. When I get into bed, the day is over. I never work from bed. The bed is a space to relax! TV is allowed on Friday nights, but when I’m in bed, I am either sleeping or reading. I rarely even let myself scroll my phone! The rules are the rules, only because I’ve struggled so much in the past.
For years, I thought that making my bed into a calming oasis meant using all-white bedding, but lately, I’ve come around to adding more color, pattern, and texture. West Elm’s new vibrant florals collection has so much patterned goodness. I gave my bedroom a little update using pieces from this collection and love how it turned out.
Rather than being distracting or feeling “loud,” my new colorful bed is a nice combination of soothing and energizing. It’s the perfect place to wind down from a busy day, and the color makes me feel uplifted and happy. I love how it turned out!
Products featured: Thistle Sheet Set in Fresh Green, Vine Floral Duvet Set + Matching Shams, Toulon Quilt + Matching Shams (this fabric is so soft!), Curved Wicker Tray, Wiggle Circular Pillow
Not pictured: I also got this bath mat and this very cute door mat.
Who knew that all this pattern could actually feel soothing and calm!? If you ask me, it’s kind of like the bedding equivalent of this table.
This curved wicker tray is great for the essentials (or even breakfast!), But I have to be honest, it was hanging out downstairs for a bit, and Jaime claimed it as his bed. What Jaime wants, Jaime gets! My breakfast in bed dreams have been foiled; it’s his now.
And isn’t the tie detail on the duvet and shams so pretty?

Wait the basket is seriously so brilliant! I’m constantly hunting around my bed for my remote, my glasses and my book…this is stylish and smart! I’m buying one. Maybe two in case it turns into a cat bed too LOL.
Beautiful! West Elm bedding has always been a favorite of mine for many years - and love this new collection, thank you for sharing.
