The Saturday Group Text, #28
Orange blossom everything, the new deodorant I tried + loved, Bobbi Brown's Amazon finds, good recs on what to watch, + more.
Hi! How was your week? Mine was a bit packed between our eclipse travel, finalizing taxes, work, etc etc! I did have a perfect night with my friend
on Thursday. She was visiting from out of town and it was so, so nice to catch up. We met up at 6, had the most delicious dinner… and I was home before 9 to read in bed. Ideal. One on one time with a friend, great food, an early bedtime. If you are local to Charleston, Southbound is a must. Every bite was perfection. I had been wanting to go for ages and having a friend here was the perfect excuse.I have a low key weekend. Today I’m stopping by a friend’s pop-up and then having a visit with my niece but otherwise planning on a lot of reading, naps, and needlepoint.
Weekend Reading is up on the blog. This week’s list is a good one. Loads of book recommendations. Spring pasta recipes. Movies and TV recs galore. A renovated 1970s cabin. Delta’s latest round of changes. An unexpected perk of solo travel. I could go on. I hope you love the list but more importantly, have the best weekend!
Two new-to-me orange blossom things.
I love orange blossom. Absolutely love it. One of my all time favorite scents.
First is this body oil which
said was a must; I trust her recommendations implicitely. It is divine. This is more skincare than fragrance and the texture itself is amazing (it makes your legs look and feel great). It is a dry oil (fyi - a dry oil just means it will be absorbed quickly and leaves behind a satin finish). But the fragrance! Just the most delightful wave of orange blossom. After a shower I will do a little bit of body serum and then this for my silkiest skin. The other thing? Buly’s Triple Berkane Orange Blossom Fragrance. Heaven in a bottle (and the most beautiful bottle at that!). If you love orange blossom (and neroli) as much as I do, you will adore this.
As mentioned above I caught up with my friend
on Thursday. There were of course more important things to chat about but her earrings stopped me in my tracks. I lovvvvvve a serpent and these are just perfect. She confirmed that a) they were still available (Alexis Bittar ofc) and b) super lightweight. I got home from dinner and immediately ordered myself a pair. We all need these, I think.Maybe TMI bu tI have been going through it with B.O. The annoying thing about aluminum free deodorants is that for me at least, they always seem to stop working at some point (it’s always a temporary thing and I’ll return to an old favorite), but I have to rotate. None of my usual favorites were working which was frustrating and embarrassing - it was time to try something new.
Anyway! I was sent a stick of Athena Club’s new “all day deo” in a PR mailer and gave it a try. RELIEF! This smells so good (I chose Solar Disco for its notes of orange blossom, sandalwood, and tuberose) and more importantly keeps me smelling so good all day long. I highly recommend it.
These are amazing! Maybe my favorite beauty launch of the year? They do what the shadow sticks did for eyeshadow in that they make it so easy. I find it super simple to draw on a thick line, or a very thin one, depending how I drag the pencil. Cannot recommend them enough. My favorite shades are panther (a true black) and fog (a warm brown). Highly, highly recommend.
What I Watched This Week:
Ripley (on Netflix) was binged in two days. I was a big fan of the original (but weren’t we all!) and absolutely loved this interpretation. Super dark. Scary in that you feel super anxious watching. Gorgeous film noir cinematography - truly, every frame is breathtakingly beautiful. Definitely worth the watch.
The Taste of Things (purchased on Apple) was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. Beautiful cinematography. A gorgeous romance. Juliette Binoche at her finest. THE FOOD. I loved this. Loved it. It has subtitles so save it for when you are alert! It will make you want to cook and/or go out for a delicious meal. I will warn you that it is sad.
I am still cruising along with Palm Royale. Incredible costumes, sets, and cast. Plot is getting better!
Extras:
Did you see that
is now on Substack? Everyone is here and I LOVE IT! I love how relatable, and… normal(!) it is. There is something that really tickles me, seeing folks I consider to be ultra fabulous sharing more down to earth content like this. Her Amazon essentials, this “keeping it real” post, how she gets ready in the back seat of an uber, etc. I’m looking forward to more.A really sweet eclipse story!
Ulla Johnson gave us a code; fun fun. Take 10% off your purchase with code GraceAtwood10off. I have updated my codes page with this. (We have so many good codes right now which makes me happy!).
YES! I'm so glad you ended up loving the Bastide oil! It's truly such a delight. And now I'm off to order the Buly too! Already imagining what happens when you layer the two... 😮💨
Thanks for tip on then new BB eyeliner
